Just like at many other resorts, the tour operator organizing your holiday knows that most tourists don’t yet know the real local prices — so excursions, products, and services can be marked up two or even three times.
On the day you arrive, while you’re still getting settled, there’s usually a meeting where the hotel guide tells you that excursions should be booked ONLY through them!!! Everyone else supposedly has no insurance, no license, the tours are somehow worse, the “real” latex isn’t real, and sooner or later somebody is going to scam you.
Then tomorrow everyone is sent on a “free” sightseeing tour, sometimes with another excursion thrown in as a “gift.”
